Woodcut front page of the journal "Sion" 1866. Since 1967 a program of Armenian Studies has existed at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. During the last two years, due to the retirement of Prof. Michael E. Stone, Professor of Armenian Studies followed by the resignation of the lecturer in Armenian Studies, a hiatus took place in the teaching program. In the years 2010-11, teaching in the area of Armenian Studies was resumed and both Ancient Armenian and also a course on the Armenians and Other Peoples of the Caucasus were taught. A new doctoral student is in the process of entering the program and renewed interest in the study of Armenian and the Armenian people is being felt. It is our hope to develop these modest beginnings into the full program we offered previously. Rich information about Armenian Studies and about our past and current activities may be found on this web page.
While
visiting Washington D.C., as Senior Distinguished Visiting Scholar at
the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress, Prof. Michael E.
Stone presented a lecture titled “A Hidden Treasure: The Armenian
Adam Epic by Arakel of Siwnik” on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003.
