The Armenians in Jerusalem and the Holy Land30 Years of Armenian Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem
The
Program in Armenian Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem was
established in 1969. Since then it has had a continuous program of teaching,
research and community outreach. In the last six or seven years it has
undergone a period of unprecedented dynamic development.
In the year 1999 we are marking 30 Years of Armenian Studies in Jerusalem.
This major achievement is particularly celebrated because of the dynamic
development of the Armenian Studies Program
in the past five years. We have increased our course offerings and now
have students enrolled for the B.A., M.A. and
Ph.D. degrees. We present lectures to the general public in Armenian,
Hebrew and English. A stream of distinguished visitors enrich ou r intellectual
life. These are some of the many programs which we run. To Celebrate the
30 Years achievement the following major events will be celebrated:
1. On 4 May, 1999, an event to
celebrate Armenian Studies at the Hebrew University was organized in Washington
DC. A dinner was held in the Armenian embassy in Washington, DC, to honour
distinguished friends of the Hebrew University's Armenian Studies Program,
Ms. Caroline Mugar and Mr. Leon Levy, with the participation of scholars,
community activists and friends, the presence of H.E. Ambassador Shugarian
and Prof. Michael Stone. Prof. Stone gave an address
upon this occasion. A report of this event and the program are available.
