Gunneweg, Jan and Perlman, I. 1994, The Origin of a
Mycenaean IIIC:1 Stirrup Jar from Tell Keisan, Revue Biblique
101, pp. 559-561
These are the results of one of the two Mycenaean III C1 vessels
ever found in Israel (Beth Shean has the second one). This jar
antedates the Mycenaean IIIC1b ware that was found in Ashdod and
Miqne and locally made in Israel. Our Tell Keisan jar was
imported from Kouklia in Cyprus and demonstrates, therefore, that
this type of Mycenaean ware came from Cyprus made by people who
probably were Mycenaeans themselves but were expanding out of the
Argolid, their homeland in Greece, into other sites, among which
the Island of Cyprus from where their locally made pottery
reached Keisan in Canaan.
